THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: LET NONE OF US EVER THINK THAT WE CAN DO ANYTHING ON OUR OWN. Now I know that this runs cross grain to how we think. We have ability, talent, skill and experience and THERE IS A LOT THAT WE CAN DO AND SHOULD DO. But, there is a destructive kind of self reliance because the reality is that there are SOME THINGS THAT WE CANNOT DO. Jesus pointed this out. [John 15:5] “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.” The Amplified translation clarifies. “I am the Vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in Me and I in him bears much fruit, for [otherwise] apart from Me [that is, cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing.” This puts life into it’s proper perspective. Any achievement, accomplishment or success we might accomplish is useless apart from a relationship with Jesus Christ. What good does it do ultimately if we have success according to this world but not in the eyes of God? Jesus put it another way; [Mark 8:36] “For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?” The point being, what benefit is there if you trust in yourself…gain, even the whole world, only to lose everything in the end? Life has to be built on a foundation of a relationship with Jesus Christ. He is the centerpiece of all that we are and do. On that foundation there is a lot we can do with God’s help to succeed in life. Even Jesus said. [John 5:30] “I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me.” That’s a conclusion we better all come to. LET NONE OF US EVER THINK WE CAN DO ANYTHING ON OUR OWN!
