THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: THOUGHTS ABOUT SATURDAY’S SHOOTING IN EL PASO. It’s a tragedy, it should never have happened, why do these things keep happening? Well, at least it’s way over there in another country, state or city. We all think such things. On Saturday it hit close to home and we all feel it. A cloud has descended over our city. Every citizen is affected, some of course, more directly than others because they have been wounded or tragically, others have lost a loved one. Everyone looks for a reason, or someone or something to blame and we’re going to be hearing a lot of that in the next few days. There is one central reason that we can point to that these events keep occurring, and that is the simple fact that EVIL EXISTS. People don’t like acknowledging that, we shy away from admitting it’s presence…but it is there. It expresses itself in many different ways, everyone is capable of expressing evil…but then on occasion it erupts to the degree it did on Saturday at Walmart in El Paso. Since the beginning of time, since the sin of Adam and Eve evil has crept into the heart of man and if it goes unchecked it will find a way to express itself. [Genesis 4:8] “Now Cain talked with Abel his brother; and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him.” That’s evil, pure evil…first jealousy, then anger…then he perpetrates on his brother an act of violence. Evil has been expressing itself ever since. THERE IS AN ANSWER, ONLY ONE ANSWER. Our country, and of course not only here but world wide, needs a spiritual revival. There is a solution to sin and evil and it begins with repenting of our sin and receiving Jesus Christ as our Savior. SIN, OUR SEPARATION FROM GOD, IS THE CULPRIT AND JESUS IS THE ANSWER. [Romans 5:10] “For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.” SAVED BY HIS LIFE! Jesus dealt a death blow to the evil that is in the heart of man. You can’t legislate evil away, you can’t fix it by blaming someone or something for it’s presence. Each and every person has to deal with the sin that is in their own heart. We should all renew our commitment to bring the Gospel to the world in every way we can. Individually, through our personal witnessing and corporately, through the church, bringing the Gospel to the world. [Matthew 5:14-16] “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lamp-stand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” Light shining dispels darkness and evil and we need ever more light from believers in Jesus Christ shining in this darkened world. I may have more to say going forward but thus far THOSE ARE MY THOUGHTS ABOUT THE SHOOTING IN EL PASO.
