THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: WE ALL HAVE A CROSS TO BEAR. (Part 1) That’s just the way life is. We have our problems to face, challenges to meet and obstacles to overcome. Granted, some people’s crosses are heavier than others and it may be that the cross we are bearing now is heavier than it’s ever been. Jesus put it very succinctly; [Luke 14:27] “And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.” This is pretty harsh imagery, it alludes to the custom of a criminal having to carry his own cross to the place of execution. Jesus is putting this in the context of having to deal with life’s pressures and problems at the same time we are serving God. All problems can’t be eliminated so that we can serve God. We have to do both at the same time. Face obstacles, deal with pressure, handle whatever challenges come…and, at the same time do all that God has called us to do. We have examples all around us of people that are bearing their cross as they are serving God with excellence. Pastor Warner comes to mind…that’s a very heavy cross, and most of us think; “I could never carry that one….”, but he is and does. Accident, wheelchair, cancer, amputation etc. When I look at my particular cross it gets a little lighter. Thank God for the examples we have around that encourage us along the way. You can serve God and do His will even though we have a very heavy cross to bear. Of course, there is grace, help and strength along the way. God gives us power and ability beyond ourselves in order to bear up under our cross. [2 Corinthians 12:9] “And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that THE POWER OF CHRIST MAY REST UPON ME.” Part of that power is to help you because WE ALL HAVE A CROSS TO BEAR…and we can do so with victory.
