THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: WE DON’T LIKE CRITICISM BUT WE NEED IT. Criticism, the best and most needful criticism, is going to come from another pair of eyes that is watching our lives. We don’t see everything, there’s a lot that we overlook or are simply blinded to. The Word of God warns us; [Romans 12:3] “For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, NOT TO THINK OF HIMSELF MORE HIGHLY THAN HE OUGHT TO THINK, but to think soberly…” We need each other for the very purpose of criticism, to sober each other up. Our pride detests it. We don’t like for our flaws to be pointed out. Criticism may not be agreeable, but it is necessary. It fulfills the same function as pain in the human body. It calls attention to an unhealthy state of things. This is why we should be grateful for the church, friends and brethren. Having relationship with people that care enough about you to tell you what you need to hear and not always what you want to hear. [Proverbs 27:6] “Faithful are the wounds of a friend…” A friend who corrects and criticizes out of love and concern can sting, but in the long run it helps us. You may be in a position to hear and receive criticism…never reject it out of hand, always receive and consider the possibility that it may be true. That’s how change can come. You may also be in a position to offer criticism to a friend. Always do it with love, prayer beforehand that it will be received and make sure your heart and motives are right. Consider this very important truth today…it may be that the best thing for us is a little criticism. WE DON’T LIKE CRITICISM BUT WE NEED IT.
